Showers are available at camp, and our water management plan allows each GlamCock to take one shower per day. Showers are strictly for use by GlamCocks only - no guests. Operation of the showers will be explained during the Monday Meeting.
• Don't run the pumps longer than 20 min.
• Only run the sump pump when there is enough water to cover the bottom of the pump.
All three sump pump hoses will go into one grey water barrel that only has the cap removed, not the lid. Then one of the barrels will have the cap off as well, with the strainer that (from the storage unit) over the cap for everyone to put their grey water.
It's vitally important that camp members place all their grey water into the barrels via the strainer and never into any grey water evap pond.
Once a barrel is full, you'll rotate the sump pump hoses into the next barrel.
Trying to get clean behind the water trucks that spray down the roads is NOT recommended. That water is not drinkable/potable and could make you ill, and some people have also slipped in the slick mud and injured themselves.
There will probably be times where you feel down, rough, hungover, dry, irritable, etc. it's a harsh environment, on top of whatever other Stresses you're putting on your body. Drink lots of water, take naps, have a shower. There are many camps that offer pampering services like massages, eye treatments, or just a quiet place to sleep. Take advantage of them!
If you see someone else having a rough time, be kind and help out if asked, but keep in mind that sometimes space is needed too.
Bikes are a necessity at Burning Man, because of the massive size of the city. There will be bike racks available at camp to lock your bike to. Before our parties, please move your bike away from our public bike racks, to free up as much space as possible for our guests.
There are a few camps that provide bicycle repair services, such as Playa Bike Repair. They have limited parts, but can usually help you out in a pinch.
We recommended that you ALWAYS lock your bike when parking it. It can be a nuisance, but the extra few seconds you take to do it could save you a lot of headache. Every year, GlamCock bikes are “indefinitely borrowed” or “accidentally gifted” and it can be a big downer for that person’s burn.
If a GlamCock brother’s bike is taken, please offer your bike for them to borrow whenever you don’t need it. It can make a big difference for them.
You never know what could happen out there on the playa, so make sure you always pack the essentials. Water is crucial, as are eye protection for dust storms, dust mask or bandanna, and first aid supplies. Protect yourself from the sun, and always let people know if you need help.
If you do get caught in a whiteout, stay where you are and wait for it to pass. Watch out for vehicles or bikes that can't see you!
If it starts to rain, quickly cover any camp equipment or resources that could suffer damage, particularly electrical equipment. Follow camp instructions to protect and secure key camp infrastructure. The magic words? “Shelter in Place” That means you, your bike, your mutant vehicle, and your magic unicorn. Traveling on wet roads makes them a bumpy washboardy mess - just don’t do it! Take some time to put some emergency plans in place before you get to the playa so you are prepared. BMIR (94.5) will be broadcasting any instructions you may need, so bring a device that can safely turn on.
It would be difficult to list all the many tips and tricks that we’ve learned about surviving on the Playa over the years. The survival basics are in the Survival Guide (which you already read, right?)
But here are few key things to remember, which will help you figure out what to do around camp.
