2015 was our biggest Burn to date! Many veterans who had skipped 2014 and heard how great it was, now wanted to come back, and we had over 120 membership requests. With a wealth of resources from successful regional events, it seemed anything was possible, and planning and organization was in high gear before the year even began.
Tarz dreamt bigger for the structures, Goldie lined up a new sound system, Banger designed a brand new bar, M@ found us a trailer to solve our storage headaches, Noodle organized our first kitchen and meal plan, Tiger proposed new collaborations, and Regions came together to work harder than ever.
It was also challenging. The weather was harsher and colder than we had ever experienced, and we battled two solid days of wind and white-out dust storms during camp build. The new sound system didn’t arrive in Reno until Wednesday, so we begged speakers off our neighbors to fill the gap. We were plagued again by power issues during parties.
Many campmates described it as a tough burn, not just environmentally, but also in terms of personal reflection. Like an actual carnival of mirrors, the Burn seemed to keep revealing facets of ourselves that were surprising, jarring, and even unsettling.
But overall, we quite literally reached new heights, becoming an anchor of the gayborhood, elevating our collaboration with other camps, and throwing the biggest and best parties the GlamCock camp had ever seen!
